Born from the lotus
The flower that gives the house its name grows in still water and comes up clean. That is the whole brief.
Padmaja means born from the lotus. It is one of the older names in the subcontinent and it carries a specific idea rather than a general prettiness: the lotus roots in silt, rises through still water, and opens without a mark on it. Nothing about the process is delicate. The result reads as though it were.
That gap between how something is made and how it appears is the part we found useful. A hand-pleated kaftan takes three days on a table and then hangs as if it had simply fallen that way. Forty-eight pintucks are stitched and released so that a garment can have volume without a single visible gather. The labour is real and the labour is invisible, and both of those things matter.
True luxury is not about excess. It is about feeling entirely at peace in what you wear, and in who you are.
So the house works in natural forms and fluid silhouettes, and it stays away from the kind of detail that announces its own difficulty. There is no logo on the outside of anything we make. The mark goes on a two-centimetre tag at the cuff, in gold foil, where only the wearer will find it.
Rooted in centuries of cultural symbolism and cut for a woman who is going somewhere on a Tuesday. Both are true at once, and the collection is the argument for it.
